Malacañang said Wednesday that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. may look into the proposal to implement a four-day workweek in government offices as part of efforts to save energy.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro explained that the President could study the suggestion, particularly if tensions in the Middle East escalate.
“Sa ngayon po ay maaaring pag-aralan po ng Pangulo ang ganyang suhestiyon lalo na kung magiging malala pa po ang nangyayaring Israel-Iran issue,” Castro said during a Palace briefing.
She clarified that the proposal has not yet been formally discussed in Malacañang.
“Sa ngayon po ay hindi pa po ito napag-uusapan,” she added.
The idea was suggested by Senator Win Gatchalian as part of efforts to save fuel amid potential oil supply disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
Last Tuesday, Marcos encouraged government workers and the public to conserve energy by using public transportation and carpooling.
He also appealed to private vehicle owners to avoid “unnecessary travel” and opt for commuting whenever possible.
