Parañaque City 2nd District Representative Brian Yamsuan warned that some gasoline stations are exploiting the ongoing fuel crisis to boost profits, citing cases that may amount to economic sabotage.
In an interview, Yamsuan said certain gas stations raise prices immediately or close despite having affordable stock, waiting for higher market rates before selling.
“Saka yung iba nagsasara ha, naghihintay ng mas mataas na increase samantalang ang ginagamit nila ay supply na nabili nila sa mas mura,” he said.
He added, “So huwag naman sana nilang gamitin itong situwasyon natin ngayon upang pagkakitaan ang mga kababayan nating maliliit.”
Yamsuan urged the Department of Energy (DOE) to strengthen monitoring nationwide and ensure consumers are protected.
He emphasized that gasoline outlets should first sell their cheaper stock before hiking prices.
“Kailangang ubusin muna (ang kaning stock). Hindi yung nagtaas ka ng presyo ang dami mo pa lamang stocks na na-gasolina eh pananamantala ang tawag dun…economic sabotage yun,” Yamsuan said, noting that profiteering in a national crisis worsens the burden on ordinary citizens.
The lawmaker stressed that violators should face legal action to set an example and prevent further exploitation.
