MARCOS MEETS UN CHIEF ON SECURITY COUNCIL BID

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York City on Monday (Tuesday in Manila) to discuss the Philippines’ bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council and the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

The bilateral meeting was held at UN headquarters during Marcos’ two-day working visit to the United States.

He was joined by Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, Permanent Representative to the UN Enrique Manalo, Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez, and Acting Communications Secretary Dave Gomez.

Malacañang emphasized that the meeting highlighted the “long-standing partnership” between the Philippines and the United Nations. The Palace noted that the country’s Security Council bid reflects its commitment to strengthening that relationship.

Elections for non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council are set for June 3, 2026. This latest engagement follows Marcos’ earlier meeting with Guterres in October 2025 during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
