MARCOS RETURNS FROM NEW YORK WORKING VISIT

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has returned to the Philippines after what he described as a “very productive” working visit to New York, where he advanced initiatives on global peace, promoted Manila’s bid for a seat on the United Nations (UN) Security Council, and engaged potential investors.

Marcos and his official delegation arrived at 11:29 p.m. Wednesday following a series of high-level meetings at the UN headquarters.

A major highlight of the trip was his address at the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), where he emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment as a key driver of national development.

The President also met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, reaffirming the Philippines’ commitment to multilateralism and its enduring partnership with the United Nations.

During a special session of the UN General Assembly, Marcos stressed the value of the rule of law, diplomacy, and peaceful resolution of conflicts, while reiterating the country’s push for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.

He said the Philippines hopes to represent the perspectives of Indo-Pacific nations, developing countries, climate-vulnerable states, and middle-income economies within the influential UN body.

On the economic front, Marcos met with global investors and financial leaders to promote the Philippines as a prime investment destination.

Discussions included officials from the US Medical Glove Company, which is exploring the establishment of a manufacturing facility in the country that could generate more than 2,000 jobs.

He also met with executives from J.P. Morgan to address global economic risks, geopolitical tensions, and the potential effects of rising oil prices on international financial markets.
