The rehabilitation of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) has reached 60 percent completion, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon announced on Thursday.
After inspecting the project, Dizon said the first phase of the rehabilitation is now more than halfway finished, about three months after construction began in December 2025.
“The project is now 60% (complete) since it started in December 2025, along Roxas Boulevard. From Pasay to Orense to Makati,” he said.
The project aims to improve safety and accessibility along the busy thoroughfare, particularly for pedestrians and commuters, through the expansion of sidewalks in several sections of EDSA.
“So many are commuting in EDSA. This is life-threatening since there is no sidewalk, people are walking on the road. It’s really dangerous,” Dizon said.
“We need to have (the sidewalk). The bike lane, we will include it in the sidewalk, like what we see in other countries.”
According to Dizon, the project is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to transform EDSA into a more commuter-friendly and pedestrian-oriented corridor. Current works include asphalt overlay and concrete reblocking along parts of the highway.
Once the first phase is completed, the second phase of the rehabilitation—covering the stretch from Orense to Cubao—will begin immediately.
Earlier, the Department of Public Works and Highways said its next major road initiative after the EDSA rehabilitation will be the upgrading of Circumferential Road 5 (C-5 Road), which connects Taguig, Pasig, Quezon City, and Las Piñas.
