DEPED REAFFIRMS PUSH FOR STUDENT LITERACY AT PHILIPPINE BOOK FESTIVAL 2026

The Department of Education renewed its commitment to strengthening literacy among Filipino students as Education Secretary Sonny Angara formally opened the Philippine Book Festival 2026 on March 12 at SM Megamall Megatrade Hall.

The four-day event, organized by the National Book Development Board, serves as the country’s premier showcase of Filipino-authored books and creative works.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Angara highlighted the continued relevance of printed books even as classrooms increasingly adopt digital tools.

“While we are moving forward toward digital transformation, we remain invested in what continues to matter—encouraging our learners to strengthen their literacy through books,” he said.

Angara also stressed that books play a key role not only in education but in shaping identity among young Filipinos.

“Books serve as vital bridges connecting our learners to new knowledge and to their identity. Under the vision of President Bongbong Marcos, we continue to expand efforts to help students appreciate the power of books,” he added.
