PAGASA: AMIHAN MAY END SOON AS EASTERLIES BRING WARMER WEATHER

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the northeast monsoon, or amihan, may soon be over as the country transitions to warmer easterly winds.

In its weekly outlook, PAGASA reported that amihan will continue to bring cloudy skies with light rains on Friday, March 13, over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, while other parts of Mindanao may experience thunderstorms.

Tropical Depression Nuri, previously monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility, has weakened into a low-pressure area and is unlikely to redevelop within 24 hours.

From March 14 to 17, amihan will continue to affect most parts of the country, with partly cloudy skies and occasional light rains in eastern sections.

By March 18 to 20, PAGASA said easterlies—warm winds from the Pacific Ocean—will prevail nationwide, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in eastern areas.

The shift in wind pattern is expected to result in warmer weather conditions as the country gradually transitions away from the cool and dry season.

PAGASA noted that the amihan season for 2024–2025 officially ended on March 26, 2025.
