The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved fare increases for jeepneys and buses, according to Chairperson Vigor Mendoza II.
Mendoza said the exact rates of the adjustment will be announced on Tuesday, March 17, noting that while the fare hike is certain, it must still be justified to Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez.
The LTFRB chief assured commuters that the adjustment will remain reasonable to avoid placing an excessive burden on passengers.
“Hindi naman natin kayang lubohin ‘yan, lakihan na napakalaki dahil mahihirapan masyado ‘yung ating mga mananakay,” Mendoza explained.
He emphasized that the agency is carefully balancing the needs of transport operators affected by rising fuel costs with the welfare of commuters, ensuring that the increase is fair and manageable.
