Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso on Thursday confirmed that he will seek reelection in 2028, putting to rest speculation about another national run.
In a television interview, Domagoso said his immediate priority is to continue leading Manila and secure another term as mayor.
“Tatakbo… (ako sa) 2028 for reelection,” he said when asked about his political plans beyond his current term.
Domagoso, who ran for president in 2022 but lost to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. before returning to local politics, declined to entertain the possibility of another national bid or appointment, stressing his focus on city governance.
He underscored the importance of prioritizing public service over personal ambition, recalling a recent conversation with the President.
“It’s not about who… It’s about the office,” he said.
Domagoso added that national leadership directly impacts local governments.
“Pag bagsak ka, palpak ka, yari kami. Pag matagumpay ka, may (benepisyo) kami bilang mamamayan,” he noted.
