President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday urged Filipinos to carry forward the values of compassion, humility, and solidarity beyond the observance of Eid al-Fitr, framing them as essential to building a “Bagong Pilipinas.”
In his message marking the end of Ramadan, Marcos joined Muslim Filipinos in celebrating the occasion, describing it as both solemn and joyous.
“In the name of Allah, the Most Just and the Most Merciful, I join our Muslim Filipino brothers and sisters here at home and across the world in the solemn and joyous celebration of Eid’l Fitr. Today marks the culmination of Ramadan, a month of prayer, fasting, reflection, and generosity,” he said.
The President emphasized that the discipline and sacrifices observed during Ramadan should translate into lasting values that strengthen families, uplift communities, and reinforce national unity.
“The virtues nurtured during this sacred month — compassion, humility, patience, and charity — must not end with the breaking of the fast. They must travel beyond the self,” he added.
Marcos highlighted how these virtues are already reflected in the daily lives of many Muslim Filipinos, citing acts of charity, patience, and fidelity to duty as examples of moral steadiness that preserve peace and sustain trust in communities.
He concluded with a message of hope and unity:
“May the Eid bring comfort to those who carry heavy burdens, renewed strength to those who serve, and joy to every Filipino home. May it deepen understanding across faiths and cultures and continue to unite us in our shared aspiration to build a Bagong Pilipinas where dignity is upheld, opportunity reaches every Filipino, and peace flourishes through justice and mutual respect. Eid Mubarak.”
Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, falls on March 21 this year in the Philippines after the crescent moon was sighted late, extending the fasting period to a full 30 days.
Marcos earlier declared March 20 a regular holiday nationwide in observance of the occasion.
