The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced it will extend its cash aid program for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers outside Metro Manila following the Holy Week break, aiming to ease the impact of rising fuel prices.
Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said preparations for the next phase are underway while payouts continue in the National Capital Region.
“Ang target po natin ay makapag-umpisa tayo right after Holy Week. Sa ngayon, hindi pa natin nakikita ang kabuuang bilang ng mga drivers sa iba’t ibang panig ng ating bansa,” she explained.
After distributing an initial ₱5,000 cash aid to tricycle drivers, the DSWD will provide assistance to other transport groups starting March 24. The schedule includes:
- March 24: 27,635 transport network vehicle service drivers
- March 25: Over 21,700 public utility jeepney drivers
- March 26–27: Around 137,700 delivery riders
- March 28: Approximately 27,600 motorcycle taxi drivers
Dumlao emphasized that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed agencies to ensure drivers receive prompt support.
“Ang gusto po ng Pangulong Marcos Jr., ay matulungan lahat ng ating drivers na may suliraning kinakaharap bunsod ng pagtaas ng presyo ng petrolyo,” she said.
To ensure orderly payouts, the DSWD requires strict verification, including the physical presence of beneficiaries and valid identification.
Taxi drivers will receive assistance from the Department of Transportation, while farmers and fisherfolk will be covered by the Department of Agriculture.
The agency urged drivers to coordinate with local government units and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to confirm inclusion in the official list.
Beneficiaries must also bring their driver’s license and a photocopy when claiming assistance.
