PNP TO CRACK DOWN ON ONLINE GAMING CRIMES, INCLUDING ROBLOX

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group has been ordered to intensify its campaign against criminal activities linked to online gaming platforms.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. issued the directive after authorities flagged Roblox for alleged involvement in child exploitation.

“Our mandate of serving and protecting the people now encompasses cyberspace to keep them safe, especially for children. This is what modern policing also means, and your PNP has been keeping up,” he said in a statement.

Nartatez confirmed that the PNP is coordinating with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) to probe Roblox for alleged sexual predation, grooming, and exploitation of minors.

He clarified that the effort is not limited to Roblox, as other gaming and social platforms are also under surveillance.

On March 16, the CICC partnered with the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission to bolster efforts against digital organized crime, particularly illicit online gambling.

A separate collaboration with Digital Pinoys has been conducted to document and verify illegal gambling sites and apps, with findings submitted to the PNP-ACG for possible prosecution.

Suspects identified in these operations may face charges under the Cybercrime Prevention Act and related offenses such as syndicated estafa.
