GILAS WOMEN RISE TO NO. 30 IN FIBA RANKINGS AFTER QUALIFIERS RUN

Gilas Pilipinas Women climbed nine spots in the latest FIBA world rankings, moving up to No. 30 following their stint in the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament.

The team improved from its previous No. 39 ranking in August 2025, finishing the tournament with a 1-4 record. Their campaign was highlighted by a 74-59 upset victory over world No. 19 Colombia Women’s National Basketball Team.

Two-time UAAP MVP Kacey Dela Rosa led the breakthrough win with 25 points and 18 rebounds.

“I’m super happy lang na I was able to help the team to get the win. And, yeah, I’m just happy to be there and play my game. And, yun nga, ma-help yung country na maangat,” she said during the All-Women in Sports Awards in Pasay City last Friday.

The national team was recognized at the event for its gold medal finish at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand and for reaching its first-ever appearance in the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament.

Dela Rosa said the international exposure provided valuable experience as she prepares for the next stage of her career.

“I really think this tournament can really help me to step on a bigger level. And super daming learnings ko na nakuha this tournament. And, yun, I can use that para since mag-ggraduate na ako sa Ateneo, for playing overseas,” she added.

The Ateneo de Manila University standout was among the top awardees at the All-Women in Sports Awards, recognized for her strong impact in both local and international competitions.
