The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has warned the public against scammers using the agency’s name to deceive individuals.
The warning comes amid circulating online announcements about supposed National ID processing updates and scholarship offers allegedly from the PSA. The agency stressed that these claims are not true.
In a recent advisory, the PSA said scammers are posing as a “PSA Support Team,” sending fake emails and information to victims.
“Said individuals typically send emails using email display names like ‘PSA Support Team’ with subject headers such as ‘National ID Update and Confirmation.’ Others would initiate video calls via platforms like Google Meet and insist registered persons to download a mobile application similar to the eGovPH app,” the PSA said.
The agency emphasized that these activities are unauthorized.
“The PSA would like to reiterate that such emails are FAKE and that such activities are NOT AUTHORIZED by the agency. The PSA underscores that its official email for concerns on the National ID is info@philsys.gov.ph with the display name National ID Info Center.’”
In a separate advisory, the PSA also warned against fake scholarship offers circulating on social media, which claim to provide cash allowances and require applications through unofficial links.
“Nagbabala ang Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) laban sa kumakalat na pekeng social media posts tungkol sa umano’y scholarship na may kasamang cash allowance at nag-uudyok na mag-apply sa pamamagitan ng hindi opisyal na link,” the agency said.
“Nilinaw ng PSA na wala itong ganitong scholarship program at hindi ito nagbigay ng pahintulot sa sinuman na gamitin ang pangalan ng ahensya para sa ganitong aktibidad,” it added.
The PSA urged the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution to avoid falling victim to such fraudulent schemes.
