PCG ON FULL ALERT FOR HOLY WEEK; DOH RAISES CODE WHITE STATUS

All operational units of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have been placed on full alert starting March 28 in preparation for the influx of passengers during the Holy Week.

According to PCG Spokesperson Noemie Cayabyab, the heightened alert status will remain in effect until April 5.

The PCG is working closely with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) to assist passengers through “Malasakit Help Desks” stationed in various ports nationwide.

Authorities also warned the public against patronizing illegal or unregistered vessels, including fishing boats being used for recreational activities such as island hopping. The PCG stressed that these operators have no coordination with the agency, making them unsafe for passengers.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) will implement a Code White alert starting Monday, March 30, as part of its preparedness measures for the Holy Week.

The alert will cover the DOH Central Office, Centers for Health Development in the regions, and government hospitals, and will remain in effect until April 6.

Under Code White alert, health emergency teams, medical supplies, and hospital emergency rooms will be on 24/7 standby to ensure immediate response to road accidents, injuries, and other health emergencies during the observance.
