HOUSE PANEL TO REVIEW DOCUMENTS IN VP SARA’S IMPEACHMENT CASE

The House Committee on Justice is set to obtain key documents against Vice President Sara Duterte following the Holy Week break, according to Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong.

Among the subpoenaed records are Duterte’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN), income tax returns (ITRs) related to her businesses and those of her husband, Atty. Maneses Carpio, as well as Commission on Audit (COA) reports on confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education in 2023.

“I would anticipate that these documents would be made available in the next committee hearing,” Adiong said.

The committee, chaired by Batangas 2nd District Representative Gerville Luistro, is examining whether Duterte’s declared wealth—reportedly growing by ₱50 million between 2007 and 2024—was legitimate. This issue forms part of two impeachment complaints filed against her.

The next hearing is scheduled for April 14, when the panel will process documents from the Office of the Ombudsman, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), COA, and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

These include materials linked to a video allegedly showing Duterte issuing threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

The proceedings continue despite a pending petition filed by Atty. Israelito Torreon before the Supreme Court seeking to halt the impeachment process.
