President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced he will issue an executive order imposing a price ceiling of ₱50 per kilo for imported well-milled rice.
The measure, recommended by the National Price Coordinating Council, aims to cushion the impact of rising commodity prices driven by the Middle East crisis, which has also pushed up fuel costs.
Alongside the price cap, Marcos revealed the expansion of the government’s ₱20-per-kilo rice program. From its previous allocation of 600 metric tons, the program has been scaled up to 2,000 metric tons to meet growing demand.
Currently, the affordable rice is available in 627 centers nationwide.
This dual initiative underscores the administration’s effort to stabilize food prices while ensuring access to affordable rice for Filipino households.
