CBCP URGES STRICT SMOKE-FREE, VAPE-FREE POLICIES IN PARISHES

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Healthcare Commission has called on parishes across the country to strictly enforce anti-smoking and anti-vaping policies, emphasizing that such measures uphold both public health and the sanctity of worship spaces.

In a video message, Healthcare Commission Executive Secretary Fr. Dan Cancino underscored the harmful effects of smoking and vaping, describing them as major contributors to preventable diseases, premature death, and suffering among families.

He urged all parishes to implement and maintain smoke-free and vape-free environments.

Cancino noted that the initiative aligns with existing health regulations and reflects the Church’s commitment to safeguarding community well-being. He also encouraged the faithful to take advantage of the Holy Week season as a time for personal transformation, including efforts to quit smoking and vaping.

“We understand it is not easy. But with God’s grace, liberation is possible. Kaya po natin ito,” he said, expressing hope that individuals can overcome these habits with faith and determination.

The CBCP stressed that parishes have a crucial role in promoting healthier lifestyles while preserving respect for sacred spaces, calling on communities to embrace both physical wellness and spiritual renewal.
