TULFO CALLS FOR STRICT SAFETY CHECKS AFTER NAIA CEILING COLLAPSE

Senator Raffy Tulfo on Saturday expressed concern over the partial ceiling collapse at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, which left seven individuals injured.

Tulfo, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services, said he has already coordinated with Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez to check on the condition of the victims and ensure they are receiving proper medical assistance. He emphasized the need for a swift and efficient response in incidents like this to safeguard public welfare.

Although operations at Terminal 1 have since returned to normal, the senator urged both the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to remain vigilant in enforcing safety standards across all airport facilities nationwide.

Lopez assured that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway and committed to providing updates once findings are finalized.

In a statement, New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC) said its medical team, airport security personnel, and the PNP Aviation Security Group responded immediately to the incident, securing the affected area and conducting safety inspections before resuming operations.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident. NNIC is working closely with the relevant authorities and will take the necessary action based on the findings,” the company said.

“NNIC continues to provide all necessary assistance to those involved. The safety and well-being of passengers, airport workers, and visitors remain its top priority,” it added.
