The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded employers and employees of pay guidelines for Black Saturday, April 4, which is a special non-working day under Proclamation No. 1006, series of 2025.
According to Labor Advisory No. 05, series of 2026:
- Employees working at least eight hours on Black Saturday must receive 130% of their regular daily wage (basic pay + 30%).
- Overtime on the same day is paid an additional 30% of the hourly rate, based on the holiday wage.
- If the holiday falls on an employee’s rest day, the rate increases to 150% of the basic wage for the first eight hours.
- Work beyond eight hours on a rest day holiday is paid with an extra 30% of the hourly rate on top of the 150% base.
- Employees who do not report to work are generally not entitled to wages, unless company policies or agreements provide more favorable benefits.
DOLE said the reminder ensures fair compensation for workers while guiding employers on compliance with holiday pay rules.
