OCD ISSUES ADVISORY AS MAYON VOLCANO SHOWS HEIGHTENED ACTIVITY

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) released a fresh advisory on Saturday afternoon as Mayon Volcano continued to exhibit signs of unrest, warning residents of potential hazards including pyroclastic flow, rockfall, and ashfall.

Authorities reported that a lava collapse was observed at around 4:30 p.m., prompting renewed calls for vigilance.

“Manatili pong naka-alerto, laging mag-ingat, at sumunod sa paalala at babala ng mga awtoridad,” the OCD reminded in its advisory.

Volcanic activity remains ongoing, with lava effusion and flow previously recorded along key gullies. Lava was seen descending through the Basud (3.8 km), Bonga (3.2 km), and Mi-isi (1.3 km) channels on Friday.

From midnight Friday to midnight Saturday, the volcano also exhibited episodic minor strombolian activity and short-lived lava fountaining.

Alert Level 3 remains in effect, indicating increased unrest and the possibility of hazardous eruptions.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and strictly follow evacuation orders and safety advisories issued by local authorities.
