PAGASA WARNS OF “DANGER LEVEL” HEAT INDEX IN MINDORO, ILOILO

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned that two areas may experience a “danger level” heat index on Tuesday, April 7.

According to PAGASA’s two-day forecast, synoptic stations in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro and Dumangas, Iloilo are expected to record a heat index of 42°C.

Heat index levels between 42°C and 51°C fall under the “danger” category, significantly increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

PAGASA earlier declared the end of the northeast monsoon, or Amihan, on March 23, marking the official start of the dry season in the country.

Authorities are urging the public to take precautionary measures, including staying hydrated and drinking plenty of water to prevent dehydration.

The heat index measures how hot it actually feels to the human body by combining air temperature and relative humidity. High humidity slows the evaporation of sweat, making it harder for the body to cool itself.

Exposure to extreme heat can strain vital organs such as the heart and kidneys. Without proper care, individuals may suffer from heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
