The legal team of former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. voiced confidence Tuesday that ongoing bail hearings will clear him of allegations tied to the ₱92.8-million flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.
Revilla’s lawyer, Atty. Reody Balisi, maintained that the prosecution has yet to establish any link between the former senator and the supposed anomaly.
“We have seen from the testimonies and even from the prosecution’s own documents that there is no participation at all on the part of the former senator,” Balisi said after Monday’s hearing at the Sandiganbayan.
Balisi underscored that early witness accounts appear to support the defense, stressing that Revilla had no involvement in procurement or implementation.
“We will confront the witnesses with our questions and evidence,” he added, noting that up to 20 individuals are expected to testify during the 10-day bail proceedings.
The first day of hearings featured testimony from a National Bureau of Investigation representative and a Department of Public Works and Highways project coordination officer.
According to Balisi, both confirmed that construction took place, countering claims that the project was a “ghost” undertaking.
Revilla remains detained at the Quezon City Jail while facing malversation charges in connection with the Pandi flood control project.
