PNP: 387 GAS STATIONS TEMPORARILY CLOSE AMID FUEL SUPPLY DISRUPTIONS

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that 387 gasoline stations nationwide have ceased operations due to “non-delivery” of petroleum products, out of a total of 14,519 stations across the country.

The figures, released Thursday, April 9, were compiled in coordination with the Department of Energy (DOE) as part of ongoing monitoring of the fuel supply situation from March 1 to April 9, as of 6:00 a.m.

Authorities also documented 17 cases involving alleged hoarding, profiteering, oil pilferage, estafa, theft, and violations of Presidential Decree 1865. These incidents led to the arrest of 42 individuals.

“Kasama ang DOE, tuloy-tuloy ang ating monitoring sa fuel situation at ang pagsasampa ng kaso laban sa mga lumalabag sa batas. We remain committed to protecting the public at tiyakin ang patas na kalakalan,” said PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. in a statement.

“We encourage everyone to remain vigilant at agad i-report ang anumang kahina-hinalang aktibidad,” he added.

The PNP noted that the number of temporarily closed stations had earlier peaked at 425, as supply constraints intensified amid rising global oil prices.
