Warm weather conditions are expected to persist across the country, the state weather bureau said Saturday.
In its 4 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in several areas.
Moderate winds and seas are expected over the eastern section of Northern Luzon, while light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail in the rest of the archipelago.
PAGASA also warned of dangerously high heat indices in multiple areas, with Dumangas, Iloilo projected to reach up to 43°C. In Metro Manila, temperatures may feel as high as 39°C to 41°C.
Other areas expected to experience a heat index of around 41°C include Sangley Point in Cavite, Ambulong in Tanauan, Batangas, San Jose in Occidental Mindoro, and Zamboanga City in Zamboanga del Sur.
A heat index of 40°C is also forecast in several locations, including Aparri and Tuguegarao City in Cagayan; Baler in Aurora; San Ildefonso in Bulacan; Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac City; Calapan in Oriental Mindoro; Coron and Aborlan in Palawan; Legazpi City in Albay; Iloilo City in Iloilo; Catbalogan in Western Samar; Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte; Davao City in Davao del Sur; Cotabato City in Maguindanao; and Butuan City in Agusan del Norte.
PAGASA reminded the public that the heat index reflects the “temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity combines with actual air temperature,” warning of potential heat-related risks during peak hours.
Meanwhile, Severe Tropical Storm Sinlaku was last located nearly stationary about 2,715 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It carries maximum sustained winds of 110 kph near the center and gusts of up to 135 kph.
