Rain or Shine kept its unbeaten run in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup intact after surviving a late surge from Converge, 120–111, on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Elasto Painters improved to a 6–0 record but were forced to withstand a furious fourth-quarter comeback after building a lead of as many as 23 points.
Converge cut the deficit to 111–107 following free throws from Caelan Tiongson, putting pressure on the league leaders late in the game.
Import Jaylen Johnson delivered in the clutch, knocking down a key three-pointer to stop the FiberXers’ momentum. Johnson, alongside Justine Baltazar, helped restore control as Rain or Shine rebuilt a 116–109 cushion with timely baskets.
Juan Gomez de Liaño missed a chance to further trim the lead, while Alec Stockton added free throws to bring Converge within 116–111. Johnson then sealed the victory with another three-pointer, pushing the lead to 119–111 with just 20.9 seconds remaining.
The win mirrored Rain or Shine’s earlier escape against San Miguel, where they also lost a large lead but managed to close strongly in the final moments.
PBA games air every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on RPTV Channel 9, One Sports on YouTube, PBA Rush, and Pilipinas Live.
