LTO EXTENDS LICENSE AND VEHICLE REGISTRATION VALIDITY BY THREE MONTHS

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced a three-month extension for driver’s licenses, conductor’s licenses, student permits, and motor vehicle registrations set to expire in April 2026 or later.

The measure, approved under the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is part of government efforts to cushion the impact of rising fuel and commodity prices amid a declared national energy emergency.

Relief for Motorists
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said the extension is designed to provide financial relief and additional time for motorists to comply with renewal requirements without penalties.

“This measure aims to ease the burden of the public amid the rising costs of fuel and basic commodities, giving motorists sufficient time to comply without additional financial strain,” Lacanilao stated.

The agency confirmed that no surcharges, penalties, or fines will be imposed for late renewals within the extended period.

Operational Adjustments
In a memorandum circular addressed to regional directors and field offices, the LTO cited reduced working days and an expected surge in transactions as key reasons for the policy adjustment.

The agency said the extension will remain in effect until further notice, advising the public to monitor official announcements for any updates or changes to implementation guidelines.
