A recent OCTA Research survey reveals that a majority of Filipinos support an impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte, underscoring what lawmakers describe as a strong public demand for accountability through constitutional processes.
Conducted from March 19 to 25, the survey found that 69% of adult Filipinos believe the Vice President should face trial in the Senate or an impeachment court. In contrast, 28% opposed the proceedings, while 3% remained undecided. Public awareness of the case was notably high, with 87% of respondents stating they were aware of the impeachment complaint.
Regional support varied, with the Visayas recording the highest backing at 83%, followed by the National Capital Region at 81%. Mindanao showed lower support at 61%.
Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong, chair of the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, said the survey results reflect a clear public sentiment.
“I hope the Vice President’s legal team will consider addressing all the allegations in the impeachment complaints within the proper forum. The latest survey reflects a clear public signal that Filipinos want these issues answered through the constitutional process now underway in the House Committee on Justice,” Adiong said.
He emphasized that the survey measured support for holding a trial, not a verdict of guilt.
“Participation in the proceedings would allow the Vice President to directly respond to the issues raised,” Adiong added.
Adiong further noted that while survey data does not dictate the legal outcome, the figures “point to sustained public interest in the proceedings.”
The OCTA Research poll utilized face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adult respondents nationwide and carries a margin of error of ±3% at a 95% confidence level.
