A recent survey conducted by research firm Publicus Asia shows that GMA News and ABS-CBN News continue to be among the most trusted news organizations in the Philippines.
The PAHAYAG survey, carried out from March 21 to 24 with 1,509 respondents, found that 40% of Filipinos trust GMA News, the news department of GMA Network, when it comes to current events.
ABS-CBN News followed closely with 36% trust rating, despite the network’s lack of a broadcast franchise and limited reach on free-to-air television.
Other media outlets that ranked in the Top 5 most trusted include the Philippine Daily Inquirer (34%), Manila Bulletin (31%), and The Philippine Star (30%).
Rounding out the Top 10 were TV5/Interaksyon (27%), DZMM of ABS-CBN and Prime Media Holdings (26%), digital news site NewsWatch+ (24%), and Bombo Radyo, DZBB of GMA Network, and The Manila Times, which each garnered 23%.
The survey results highlight that despite the spread of fake news on social media, many Filipinos continue to rely on mainstream media for credible information.
