Manila Water assured customers on Sunday that water supply will remain sufficient throughout the dry season, citing expanded sources and contingency measures to address climate risks and rising demand.
During a media briefing, Corporate Communications Manager Dittie Galang said the company prepares annually for increased summer consumption.
“Taun-taon naman po talaga dumadating iyong tag-init, tumataas po iyong demand tuwing sa mga buwan ng tag-init. Kaya po ang Manila Water, taun-taon din po ‘yan na naghahanda po kami para nga sa pagdating ng mga summer months,” Galang said.
She added that securing new sources has become a priority as demand continues to grow.
“Kailangan na rin po nating maghanap ng iba pang mga mapagkukuhanan ng tubig, lalo na kung tumataas nga po iyong demand.”
Officials noted that while Angat Dam still supplies around 90% of Metro Manila’s water, reliance on it is not sustainable long term.
To strengthen supply, Manila Water is utilizing alternative sources, including:
- Laguna Lake
- Cardona Water Treatment Plant
- Upper Wawa Dam
- Standby deep wells for peak periods
Jeric Sevilla, head of Corporate Strategic Affairs and Communications, said these facilities provide hundreds of millions of liters of water daily for the East Zone’s 7.8 million customers.
“Summer or hindi summer, El Niño or hindi El Niño, Manila Water has always developed contingency plans to ensure 24/7 water supply,” Sevilla said.
“Ang ginagawa po ng Manila Water ngayon, to lessen the dependency on Angat, nag-develop po tayo ng additional water sources para ma-complement natin iyong ipinibigay ng Angat.”
Despite these preparations, the company acknowledged that some residents may still experience temporary service interruptions during scheduled maintenance or in high-elevation areas affected by low water pressure.
