HOUSE TO COMMEND BINI FOR HISTORIC COACHELLA PERFORMANCE

The House of Representatives is set to formally commend P-pop sensation BINI following their landmark performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2026.

Negros Occidental 3rd District Representative Javi Benitez, chairperson of the House Special Committee on Creative Industries, filed House Resolution (HR) No. 930 to recognize the group’s achievement as the first Filipino pop act to perform at the prestigious festival.

BINI—composed of Aiah, Mikha, Colet, Sheena, Stacey, Maloi, Jhoanna, and Gwen—delivered back-to-back sets on April 10 and 17 at the Mojave stage in Indio, California. Their 45-minute performances featured viral hits “Pantropiko,” “Karera,” and “Salamin, Salamin,” along with the debut of their new single “Blush.”

Benitez praised the group’s impact on Philippine arts in a Facebook statement:

“Their performances weren’t just a win for the fans, it was a massive milestone for our creative industries and a masterclass in bringing OPM (original Pilipino music) to the global stage.”

HR No. 930 emphasizes that BINI’s success aligns with the State’s mandate to foster a dynamic national culture, describing their Coachella debut as a “major milestone” that signifies cultural influence and entry into the international mainstream.

“The success of BINI at Coachella 2026 serves as a source of immense national pride, proving that Filipino musicality and artistry can compete and excel at the highest levels of the international entertainment industry, thus serving as an inspiration to aspiring artists and creatives across the country,” the resolution reads.

Benitez further noted that BINI’s achievement marks a turning point for the Philippines, shifting from being a music importer to an exporter of homegrown talent.

To support this momentum, he revealed plans to propose amendments to the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act (PCIDA) to explicitly include music as a commercial industry, recognizing its growing economic potential and global reach.
