ROMUALDEZ DENIES WRONGDOING AMID REPORTS OF OMBUDSMAN PROBE

The camp of former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez firmly denied allegations of legal misconduct on Wednesday, stating they have yet to be formally notified of any investigation by the Office of the Ombudsman.

The reaction follows recent statements from Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, who indicated that a pending investigation is underway regarding alleged money laundering.

Remulla further noted that authorities are currently seeking a freeze order on the lawmaker’s assets.

Defense Cites Lack of Official Notice

In a statement released by Romualdez’s spokesperson, Atty. Ade Fajardo, the legal team clarified that they remain in the dark regarding the specifics of the claims as no formal documents have been served.

“We have not received any official copy of the alleged complaint from the Office of the Ombudsman.”

Fajardo maintained that the former Speaker maintains his innocence and is confident in his record of public service. He added that Romualdez:

“Categorically and unequivocally rejected the accusations, stressing that Romualdez has acted at all times within the bounds of law.”

Commitment to Due Process

The spokesperson underscored that the camp is prepared to litigate the matter through the appropriate legal channels once the administrative requirements are met. The defense team highlighted that the integrity of the legal system relies on the adherence to established protocols.

“We expect due process to be observed. Once formally furnished, we will respond fully before the proper forum.”

While the Office of the Ombudsman continues its reported inquiry into the solon’s financial dealings, the Romualdez camp maintained that they are ready to address and debunk the allegations as soon as official notice is received.
