President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is scheduled to undertake a four-day state visit to Japan from May 26 to 29, marking a historic milestone as both nations celebrate the 70th anniversary of normalized diplomatic ties.
Malacañang confirmed that the President, accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, accepted the Japanese government’s invitation for a visit that underscores the deepening strategic partnership between the two Asian neighbors.
High-Level Diplomatic Engagement
The state program features an audience with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the Imperial Palace. A pivotal summit is also set with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to address pressing regional challenges.
According to the official announcement, the dialogue is expected to focus on:
- Energy Security: Collaborating on stable and sustainable power sources.
- Food Supply Resilience: Enhancing agricultural productivity and supply chains.
- Maritime Security: Strengthening defense coordination amid regional uncertainties.
Economic and Community Outreach
Beyond bilateral talks, President Marcos Jr. aims to bolster economic ties by meeting with Japanese business leaders to secure new investments for the Philippines.
He is also slated to engage with the Filipino community residing in Japan to address their welfare and contributions.
This engagement marks the first full state visit by a Philippine president to Japan since 2015.
