VICE GANDA RETAINS HOPE FOR ROBREDO 2028 BID DESPITE MAYORAL FOCUS

Renowned comedian and television host Vice Ganda has reaffirmed his steadfast support for former Vice President and current Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, expressing hope that she might still consider a presidential run in 2028 despite her recent pronouncements to the contrary.

In an interview conducted on Monday, April 27, the entertainer voiced his aspirations for a higher standard of governance in the Philippines, pointing out that the quality of leadership is inextricably linked to the daily welfare of the Filipino people.

During the conversation, he criticized politicians who prioritize personal interests over the urgent needs of the public.

When pressed on his preferences for the upcoming 2028 presidential race, Vice Ganda remained committed to Robredo.

He suggested that while she has expressed a desire to stay in local government, political trajectories are often influenced by the will of the people.

“Well, I’m still rooting for Leni. Well, let’s see, marami namang nasabing ano, di ba, kung sila lang, hindi sila tatakbo pero dahil sa clamor at kagustuhan nilang makapagsilbi—kasi ang desisyon ng pagtakbo, pagiging pangulo, hindi naman yan desisyon para sa sarili mo eh, di ba? Kaya maraming tao naiiba yung naging desisyon nila kasi nare-realize nila na ‘this is not just about me’ diba?,” the comedian remarked.

He further elaborated that the pursuit of the presidency transcends personal choice, as potential leaders often feel a broader moral obligation to serve when faced with a significant public call to action.

While the discussion touched on leadership, Vice Ganda quickly laughed off suggestions of entering the political arena himself, maintaining his signature humor while dismissing any personal aspirations for office.

Mayor Robredo has consistently stated in recent months that she does not intend to seek the presidency in 2028, focusing instead on her current responsibilities in Naga City and a potential second mayoral term.

This comes even as early political surveys continue to list her as a primary figure in the national conversation alongside Vice President Sara Duterte, who has already confirmed her intent to run.
