Senate Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza confirmed on Tuesday that government contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya II is scheduled for a medical procedure this week to address a frozen shoulder.
According to Mendoza, the request for treatment was formally approved after Discaya sought medical intervention for his condition.
“He asked to undergo a medical procedure, and it was allowed,” Mendoza stated during a press briefing, noting that the procedure is tentatively set for Thursday, pending final clearance from doctors.
Discaya has been held at the Senate detention facility for over seven months. His detention followed a contempt citation issued by the Blue Ribbon Committee after he reportedly refused to cooperate with a legislative inquiry into an alleged flood control scam.
While the specific medical facility remains undisclosed due to security protocols, Mendoza assured that Discaya would be returned to Senate custody immediately following the operation.
The move follows a diagnostic visit to a private hospital last month, where Discaya underwent an MRI. He previously complained that his frozen right shoulder caused significant physical discomfort and disrupted his sleep.
The contractor’s legal and personal troubles are mirrored by those of his wife, Sarah Discaya. She is currently held at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail, alongside several officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways, regarding their alleged involvement in a ₱96.5-million “ghost” infrastructure project located in Davao Occidental.
