Television host and comedian Vice Ganda has officially dispelled rumors of a potential exit from the limelight, asserting that she remains deeply committed to her career for as long as the public continues to support her.
Despite the grueling demands of the industry, the 50-year-old superstar told entertainment reporters that she still possesses the energy and passion to entertain.
“The idea of retiring has not crossed my mind yet. Hindi ko pa siya pinag-iisipan. Kayang-kaya ko pa siya. Nakakapagod din pero kayang-kaya ko pa siya at gustung-gusto ko pa siya,” Vice stated.
The “It’s Showtime” host shared her ongoing “obsession” with her current projects, expressing a relentless drive to produce films and perform in concerts.
“I’m so obsessed with what I do now. I’m obsessed with ‘Showtime.’ Every year, I get so excited to make movies. Gusto ko pang mag-concert. Tsaka mahal pa ako ng audience ko, eh,” she added.
Vice emphasized that age should not be a barrier to self-discovery. She believes that growing older often reveals hidden talents and interests that keep life vibrant.
“I don’t wanna limit myself. There are still a lot of other things I envision myself doing. I believe [na] mayroon pa akong undiscovered potentials. [Habang] tumatanda ka, mayroon kang hindi mga nagagawa before, pero you’ll be surprised na may mga hindi ka nagagawa before na, ‘Ay, kaya ko pala ‘yun. Ay, gusto ko pala ‘yun. Ay, masaya pala ‘yun,’” she remarked.
Addressing persistent calls for her to enter the political arena in the upcoming elections, the comedian laughed off the suggestion, urging fans not to take the rumors seriously.
“Nagpapagod lang sila. Huwag nating seryosohin ‘yan,” she quipped.
While she has no interest in running for office, Vice revealed that public officials have long sought her perspective on national issues, a practice dating back to the administration of the late President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
“May public officials na nakikipag-usap sa akin from time to time. Kahit naman nung time ni PNoy. Pinapasama niya ako lagi at tinatanong niya ako lagi. Maraming humihingi ng opinyon [ko],” she shared.
Even without a political title, Vice made it clear that social and political satire remains a cornerstone of her brand of comedy. She defended the use of political jokes as a form of protected expression, even if they occasionally spark controversy.
“Kung ika-cancel ninyo kami, sige. Kung mao-offend kayo, sige. We will just keep doing our thing. Magpapatawa kami. Kapag na-offend kayo, ma-offend kayo,” Vice said, while noting she remains self-aware of her limits.
“Bahagi ng komedya ang satire. Tinatanggap ang satire bilang bahagi ng freedom of expression… Ang daming nangyayari sa paligid araw-araw so ang dami mong materyal.”
