The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has officially suspended the expanded unified vehicular volume reduction program (UVVRP), commonly known as the number coding scheme, on Friday, May 1, to mark the celebration of Labor Day.
In an advisory released Thursday, the agency clarified that the suspension is a standard procedure, as the coding scheme is automatically deactivated during regular and special non-working holidays. This allows all vehicles, regardless of their license plate endings, to traverse Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares throughout the day.
With a long weekend ahead, the MMDA urged the motoring public to anticipate a surge in traffic volume and to plan their travels accordingly to avoid congestion.
The agency also issued a reminder for all drivers to prioritize road safety and maintain defensive driving habits during the holiday break.
Labor Day is observed across the Philippines as a day to recognize the vital role of the Filipino workforce in driving the country’s economic growth and nation-building efforts.
