In a bold move to redefine talent management in the Philippines, MediaQuest Holdings has officially rebranded its in-house agency, MQ Artists Agency (MQAA), into the high-octane “Star Worx.”
The rebranding, which officially launched on May 5, 2026, marks the end of the MQAA era and the beginning of a revitalized strategy to compete with the industry’s biggest talent giants.
This transformation is not merely a name change but a shift in philosophy, spearheaded by the legendary star-maker and seasoned consultant, Johnny “Mr. M” Manahan.
According to a press statement from MQuest Ventures, the content creation hub of the Manny V. Pangilinan-led MediaQuest Group, the new name “Star Worx” serves as a pun on the famous sci-fi franchise while emphasizing the core tenet of the agency: that stardom is a product of rigorous effort.
“Stars don’t just appear, they are built. You WORK, you become a STAR. What makes a star? We think it’s hard work, dedication, and love for the craft. As Mr. M puts it, ‘work makes stars.’”
THE MANAHAN VISION
The move to rebrand was first hinted at in late 2025 when Johnny Manahan joined MediaQuest as a consultant. Known for building the careers of the country’s most iconic celebrities—including the likes of Piolo Pascual, Kathryn Bernardo, and Jericho Rosales—Manahan expressed a desire to bring a “world-class” and “in-your-face” energy to the network’s talent roster.
During a series of teasers leading up to the May 5 launch, Manahan explained that the agency’s goal is to find individuals with that “one-name” potential—artists who can capture a casual viewer’s attention and command the market’s respect.
“What is a star? A star is someone who can capture your attention, drive you crazy, and who can separate you from your well-earned money. That is a star. Magbabayad ka para sa star.”
A MULTI-GENERATIONAL EVOLUTION
Star Worx is the latest evolution of a talent arm that has undergone several iterations since its founding on December 5, 2010. It originally launched as Talent5, the home of reality show discoveries from Star Factor and Artista Academy. It later transitioned into MQAA in 2024 as part of the launch of MQuest Ventures.
Under the new leadership of MediaQuest President and CEO Ricky Vargas and Head of Talent Management Jeff Remigio, Star Worx is positioned to be a central pillar of the “MediaQuest Content Hub.” This hub integrates film production (MQuest Ventures), television (TV5 and Cignal), and live events (MQ Live).
STRATEGIC REINVIGORATION
Industry analysts suggest that the rebranding is a strategic response to the shifting landscape of Philippine media, where “content is king” and bankable stars are the primary currency.
By leaning into the expertise of Mr. M and adopting a more aggressive brand identity, Star Worx aims to attract both established veterans and fresh faces to the TV5 network.
The agency’s first “marquee signing” under the previous MQAA banner was Gomburza star and Metro Manila Film Festival Best Actor Cedrick Juan, signaling the agency’s focus on high-caliber, award-winning performers.
With the launch of Star Worx, the public can expect a new “crop” of talent scheduled for reveal throughout the second quarter of 2026.
