PNP PREPARES SECURITY FOR UPCOMING WHITE RIBBON MOVEMENT RALLY ON JUNE 28

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has launched security operations ahead of the scheduled “White Ribbon Movement” protest at the EDSA People Power Monument on June 28, with the goal of preserving public order and ensuring civilian safety.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. announced that he has ordered Metro Manila police heads to perform detailed threat evaluations around the protest site and its adjacent facilities.

“While we respect the public’s right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression, the Philippine National Police will remain completely apolitical and focused solely on maintaining public order and safety during the scheduled June 28 mobilization,” Nartatez said.

Organized by a coalition of religious and civic organizations under the Inter-religious Leaders Council for National Transformation (IRCNT), the countrywide demonstration aims to demand electoral improvements, enhanced state accountability, and legislative actions countering political dynasties and systemic corruption.

A diverse crowd representing various religious and civic sectors is anticipated to attend the gathering.

“We have already initiated strategic security assessments and directed the National Capital Region Police Office, alongside concerned local units, to exercise maximum tolerance while strictly enforcing traffic management and civil disturbance protocols,” Nartatez said.

The PNP chief emphasized that the operational focus is to keep the demonstration orderly while preventing traffic congestion and disruptions to surrounding commercial centers.

“Our priority is to ensure that the activity will be peaceful and will not cause disruption to the commuting public and nearby business establishments,” he added.

Nartatez concluded by noting that field officers have received explicit directives to maintain human rights-based policing practices throughout the entirety of the deployment.
