EX-ATENEO COACH TAB BALDWIN ADMITS LACKING WORK PERMIT

Former Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) head basketball coach Tab Baldwin confessed during a Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) clarificatory hearing on Monday that he operated without an Alien Employment Permit (AEP) during his stint with the team.

Baldwin explained to labor regulators that although he was sent an email concerning his AEP back in 2015, he neglected to reply to the communication.

The American-Kiwi tactician made the disclosure after being summoned by DOLE to clarify his employment standing throughout his time managing the Ateneo men’s basketball program.

During the investigation, Acting Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino confirmed that the Bureau of Local Employment has no record of an AEP ever being issued under Baldwin’s name.

The inquiry is part of the labor department’s broader crackdown on foreign nationals complying with local employment and regulatory laws.

Baldwin, who stepped down from his coaching duties prior to the hearing, was flanked by his lawyers during the inquiry.
