MANDALUYONG CONFIRMS MPOX CASE AS DOH REPORTS LOWER NATIONWIDE NARRATIVE

Health authorities in Mandaluyong City have confirmed a localized case of mpox within a residential area, prompting immediate local intervention.

The Mandaluyong City Health Department, through its City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU), announced that it has teamed up with local medical offices to ramp up preventive strategies.

These measures include thorough case investigations, aggressive contact tracing, risk assessments, and the close monitoring of individuals who had direct contact with the patient.

“Patuloy ang CESU sa masusing disease surveillance at agarang pagtugon upang mapanatiling ligtas ang bawat Mandaleño,” it said.

Local officials also urged residents to remain calm but cautious, advising them to rely strictly on verified data.

“Manatiling mapagmatyag, maging responsable, at kumuha lamang ng impormasyon mula sa mga opisyal na channel ng pamahalaan,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) clarified that there is no ongoing surge or outbreak of the disease nationally.

DOH Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo reported that the country recorded 44 cases from January 4 to June 13, a figure that has remained stable and is actually 79% lower than the 205 cases documented during the exact same timeframe last year.

Mpox is a viral illness triggered by the monkeypox virus, an orthopoxvirus that transmits primarily via close personal contact.

This includes sexual contact, exposure to bodily fluids, respiratory droplets, contaminated items, or direct contact with skin lesions and internal mucosal linings like those in the mouth or throat. Common symptoms include a painful rash, fever, and swollen lymph nodes.
