The Philippines and Canada have solidified their bilateral ties by signing four pivotal cooperation agreements focused on energy, labor, tourism, and cultural exchange.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney presided over the signing ceremony, which took place at the Vancouver Convention Centre following their bilateral meeting.
The newly signed pacts include a Joint Declaration of Intent on energy and natural resources, alongside a separate Joint Declaration of Intent addressing labor and migration cooperation. Additionally, the two countries finalized a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on tourism cooperation and another MOU outlining cultural cooperation spanning from 2026 to 2031.
These agreements are designed to foster deeper collaboration, stimulate economic growth, and promote sustainable development between Manila and Ottawa.
“I am glad to have witnessed today the signing of bilateral understandings and declaration of cooperation in the areas of tourism, culture, and labor and migration,” Marcos said.
”These agreements will help us harness our strong people-to-people ties between our two countries as we jointly build capacities and create a mutually beneficial talent pipeline for the future,” he added.
The signing highlights a mutual, ongoing commitment to expanding a long-standing diplomatic relationship while opening fresh avenues for talent development and community exchanges.
