Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has firmly denied any connection to an alleged impeachment plot targeting Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.
The clarification was made by her lawyer, Atty. Joseph Frianeza, in response to rumors spreading online. Frianeza dismissed the online claims, formally stating the former leader’s position:
“Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo unequivocally denies knowledge or involvement to a ‘planned impeachment complaint against Ombudsman Remulla’ that was reported as BREAKING NEWS by Facebook Blogger Mary Car Pasang Serrano.”
The legal counsel also questioned the authenticity of the report, pointing out that the blogger’s true identity “cannot be ascertained.”
He added that the platform responsible for spreading the rumor is known for sharing misleading information:
“The FB Page used by him/her contained numerous malicious contents and fabricated materials.”
According to Article XI, Section 2 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, the Ombudsman is among the high-ranking officials subject to impeachment, alongside the President, Vice President, Supreme Court justices, and heads of Constitutional Commissions. These allegations surface during a period of intense political friction, coinciding with the ongoing Senate impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Arroyo, who served as Philippine President from 2001 to 2010 and later as House Speaker from 2018 to 2019, continues to be an influential figure in Congress.
