Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson took a sharp swipe at politicians who suddenly develop health complications upon facing legal arrest, posting a cryptic warning on social media late Wednesday night, July 8.
Hinting at a well-known pattern among high-profile individuals seeking medical confinement after being apprehended, Lacson remarked on his account,
“WARNING: Bawal magkasakit. Mahal ang gamot.”
He then delivered a pointed jab at the convenient timing of these medical emergencies, adding,
“Bawal magka-’warrant’. Baka magkasakit.”
The veteran lawmaker’s commentary comes on the heels of Senator Rodante Marcoleta’s recent admission to the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital.
Marcoleta was taken into police custody over a plunder case tied to allegedly undeclared campaign contributions.
According to PNP hospital officials, initial checkups revealed that the detained legislator is currently suffering from mild pneumonia.
The medical turn of events stands in stark contrast to Marcoleta’s defiant stance before his arrest.
During a recent rally organized by the religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), the lawmaker confidently assured his supporters that he was not afraid of being detained.
“Nakahanda po akong magpakulong. Kung kinakailangang maaresto po ako wala pong problema,” Marcoleta had previously proclaimed.
