MERALCO ANNOUNCES ELECTRICITY RATE HIKE FOR JULY 2026

Manila Electric Company (Meralco) customers will face higher electricity bills this month as the power distributor confirmed a rate increase of ₱0.3428 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for the July 2026 billing cycle.

The adjustment pushes the overall residential rate up to ₱14.8261 per kWh from the previous month’s ₱14.4833 per kWh. Households that typically consume 200 kWh per month can expect to see an increase of approximately ₱69 in their upcoming statement.

According to Meralco, the upward adjustment was heavily driven by a ₱0.1800 per kWh surge in the generation component, which climbed to ₱9.2504 per kWh. The utility firm attributed the spike to elevated fuel expenses and the planned maintenance closure of the Malampaya gas field.

The increase was further exacerbated by pricier energy sourced from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), alongside costlier transmission charges and government taxes.
