Fresh rumors have emerged regarding a possible 2028 presidential run by former Vice President and current Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, following a report from a local news outlet.
The report suggested that Robredo is weighing another shot at the presidency, pointing to anonymous sources connected to political circles in the Bicol Region. According to the article, local strategy talks are already happening, with two municipal mayors from Sorsogon reportedly hinting that foundational discussions are underway in case Robredo enters the race.
Additionally, the report claimed that Naga City hall officials are drafting contingency strategies to ensure a smooth leadership transition should she vacate the mayoral seat for a national campaign.
Despite the mounting rumors, Robredo has consistently maintained that her current focus remains entirely on her local duties in Naga City, having denied any intentions to seek Malacañang in 2028 during past interviews.
Nevertheless, her name continues to surface in early presidential preference polls. She remains a prominent potential contender alongside Vice President Sara Duterte, who currently leads early surveys despite facing an active impeachment trial in the Senate. Robredo previously placed second to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during the 2022 presidential elections.
Neither Robredo, her political allies, nor the Liberal Party have released an official statement regarding the recent claims.
