In an effort to sustain its favorable health status, the local government of Pasay City has boosted its public health awareness drive, prompting citizens to maintain basic yet highly effective hygiene practices despite the city’s ongoing low-risk classification for COVID-19.
Mayor Emi Calixto Rubiano released the advisory following reports of fresh infections in neighboring localities, pointing out that simple preventive measures serve as the primary shield against transmission. These practices, popularized locally as the “EMI Habit,” advocate for:
- Frequent and thorough handwashing
- Wearing face masks when showing symptoms of colds, coughs, or flu
- Consulting only verified, official government channels for updates
“There is no cause for panic,” Rubiano said, noting that Pasay continues to be classified as low risk.
However, the mayor pointed out that the city remains highly exposed because of the massive daily movement of employees, visitors, commuters, and transit passengers passing through its commercial districts, transport terminals, and airports.
To bolster local defenses, the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) has ramped up its tracking of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases to facilitate rapid detection and immediate medical response.
Rubiano reassured the public that local health teams are fully equipped and ready to manage any reported infections swiftly to contain potential outbreaks.
Local authorities concluded by reminding the community to avoid complacency and to strictly follow health guidelines, especially if they feel sick, to ensure Pasay remains safe and secure.
