PNP PARTNERS WITH MOTORCYCLE TAXI SECTOR TO BOOST SAFETY AND CRIME PREVENTION

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ramping up its collaborative efforts with the motorcycle taxi industry to bolster security measures and deter criminal activities, emphasizing the utilization of the 911 emergency hotline for swift law enforcement intervention.

PNP Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. indicated that the police force is broadening its educational drives to make sure the public is well-informed on utilizing the nationwide emergency system, which is undergoing continuous government expansion to reach more areas.

“Motorcycle taxi riders should not hesitate to call 911 at the first sign of danger. If they feel threatened, are being followed, or encounter suspicious behavior, contacting 911 immediately allows the PNP to coordinate the fastest possible police response and provide assistance before the situation escalates,” said Nartatez.

This advisory follows recent, separate stabbing attacks targeting motorcycle taxi drivers in Cavite and Caloocan City. Subsequent police operations successfully led to the capture of the perpetrators in both events.

Nartatez gave his word to the riding community that law enforcement is actively engaging with transport network companies and regional police districts to fortify safety protocols and shield transport workers.

“We understand the fear and concern these incidents have caused among our motorcycle taxi riders,” said Nartatez.

“The PNP is strengthening coordination with ride-hailing companies and local police units to enhance preventive measures, increase police visibility in high-risk areas, and ensure that those who prey on hardworking Filipinos are swiftly brought to justice,” he added.

In a related development, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) disclosed that four new 911 emergency hotline command centers have been launched in the Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region, Eastern Visayas, and Western Visayas.

Every new operational hub is equipped with 21 dispatchers and emergency personnel who underwent specialized training to manage distress calls in various regional dialects.

The DILG noted that this decentralized expansion is designed to accelerate emergency response intervals and foster seamless collaboration among public safety and rescue organizations.
