TANDUAY RUMS WIN GOLD MEDALS AT THE 2026 BARTENDER SPIRITS AWARDS

Philippine distiller Tanduay has bolstered its international standing after a pair of its premium products—Tanduay Double Rum and Tanduay Reserve Rum 10 Years—each secured a gold medal with a score of 95 at the 2026 Bartender Spirits Awards held in Chicago.

Roy Kristoffer Sumang, Tanduay’s International Business Development manager, noted that the continuous global accolades prove local rums can go head-to-head with top global brands.

“The awards Tanduay has received throughout the years show that Philippine rums can truly compete with the world’s best,” he said. “And what makes our latest wins at the Bartender Spirits Awards even more special is that it was judged by a panel composed exclusively of bartenders and hospitality professionals. These are the people who know what spirits truly shine from shelf to glass.”

The Tanduay Double Rum combines spirits aged for 16 and five years, which are then married and matured for another two years inside ex-bourbon casks. The event’s tasting commentary praised its

“aromas of honeysuckle, marzipan, and nutmeg” and a palate of “toasted toffee and cacao, culminating in a soft, long, and very pleasant finish.”

Meanwhile, the Tanduay Reserve Rum 10 Years delivers a higher-potency experience at 50.5% ABV after spending a full decade maturing in oak casks. Panelists noted its

“aromas of honey, dried fruit, and spice” leading to a “smooth, approachable palate with evolving candied fruit notes and a balanced, lingering finish.”

The Bartender Spirits Awards grade products based on their commercial viability and functionality in bar environments. The criteria include mixability, balance, versatility, taste, finish, presentation, back-bar aesthetics, and price point.

Scores ranging from 90 to 95 achieve gold status, whereas double gold requires a score of 96 or higher.

“These international awards reflect Tanduay’s commitment to Filipino craftsmanship and innovation, and they inspire us to continue showcasing the best of the Philippines on the global stage,” Sumang added.
