The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has launched a verification process to look into allegations that multiple flood control projects built in Taguig City between 2022 and 2025 were nonexistent.
The controversy comes amid escalating political friction between Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano. Taguig City has traditionally served as the bailiwick of the Cayetano clan.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon verified that he ordered regional authorities to audit all flood mitigation initiatives within the city after the allegations trended across social media platforms.
“Pina-pacheck natin sa district engineer,” said Dizon.
Nevertheless, the DPWH head noted that he has not yet been briefed on the preliminary results of the investigation.
The public dispute ignited over the weekend when Cayetano utilized a Facebook livestream to cast doubt on the substantial wealth growth of both Lacson and Senator Erwin Tulfo.
Refusing to back down, Lacson justified his financial records and retaliated by pointing to the alleged irregularities surrounding Taguig’s flood control infrastructure.
“My integrity is my first and last line of defense and I will fight to defend it with all my might. Sen Cayetano has crossed the line by attacking it. As of this morning, I’m still counting informants and witnesses, directly or through intermediaries, willing to provide information and evidence to put him in his proper place — the Payatas, QC jail,” Lacson posted on his social media account.
Lacson additionally spotlighted questionable funding insertions reportedly tied to the minority leader.
Concurrently, Tulfo advised Cayetano to brace himself for an upcoming legislative probe regarding the matter, highlighting that the investigation was actually sought by Cayetano’s own brother, Lino.
The jail mention coincides with the current detention of Senator Jinggoy Estrada and former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. at the New Quezon City Jail in Barangay Payatas, where they face charges over multi-million peso kickbacks tied to flood control infrastructure.
Various other suspects linked to the alleged scheme are also jailed at the same site.
Cayetano has strongly refuted all claims, maintaining that fake flood control initiatives do not exist in Taguig.
